My earthenware clay pieces are kiln fired and are very durable. I hand-make each piece, one at a time, of white earthenware clay, impressed with either stamps, molds, real flowers, or one of my original hand-carved designs. They are all fired in a little kiln in my garage. First I make the impression and let them dry. I then sand them and make them smooth before firing them in a 2000 degree kiln for 18-24 hours. Once out of the kiln, they are ready for glaze. Each pieces is hand painted one at a time, and most are then clear coated to make them extra shiny. I then fire them for another 18-24 hours. My pieces are not flat, they are not perfect but that is all a part of handmade! Your piece will truly be one of a kind. 🙂

Out of the kiln in November

This month of November was pretty busy.  Thanksgiving really snuck up on me.  I also signed up for a December 16th Open Market in Boca Raton so I want to have plenty of pendants and jewelry in ready for the show I have a 10×10 foot space there.  I got cracking on the kiln.  Here are some photos of some of what I made last month. most of these are listed in my Etsy shop!

My First Beads Are Fresh Out Of The Kiln!

My beads are just out of the kiln this morning. I had to let the kiln cool all night before opening. I got up pretty early, and  by about 7:30 this morning, I already made a silver wire wrapped bracelet!  I love it!  I’m keeping this one!  🙂

What do you think?

I know what I’m doing today – making more beads!  I think the kids will like shaping them too!  Yay!!!

Clay Love

It has been a lot of fun these past few weeks experimenting with new glazes and different styles of pendants.  I have a few more ideas that will have to wait until the next round in the kiln. We will be starting school again this coming week so I’ll have to get the time when I can. The kids have a few project of their own in the works so I’m sure we’ll be working with clay one afternoon soon.  For now here are some of the pieces that came out of the kiln this morning. There are more but I will get to those photos as I have time.  I also have a New Years giveaway planned for tomorrow so come back and see what I’m giving away!

The latest batch from the kiln. The one on the top left are blown out from the light. I'll post more photos of those soon.

My Pendants Are Here!

I’m so excited to finally have pendants ready for Etsy!  I’m in love with the earthy/heathery colors of the underglaze against the white earthen ware clay.  I am not a patient person but I’m learning patients while working with clay.  It takes days just to get a batch of pendants.  To make them, I rolled out the wet earthen ware clay, cut and stamped each pieces, then let them dry over night. After dry, I fire the pieces at almost 2000 degrees in my kiln. Once fired, I then glazed the pieces and fired them again (another day!). Each firing in the kiln takes 8-9 hours.  I love the process, and I really love that I can do it all with my kids.  We have been busy making pendants and ornaments for friends and family. I’m trying to make it more of a handmade Christmas this year.  There might be a few -Ahem- electronic gadget thrown in here and there.  We are a very gadgety family!  Anyway, here are a couple of my pendants.  More to come as I find the time to photography and list them.  We have Christmas this week and I think we all need it.  I will probable squeeze in more computer time. 😉

Have a great Sunday!

Patti
